You can’t go wrong with a Big 5 Safari in Rwanda’s biggest national park. Known as Akagera National Park, its landscape is splendid, with wide views over lakes, escarpments, rolling mountains, savannah plains and wetlands. It offers a chance spotting the Big Five following recent reintroductions of rhinos and lions. You’ll also see plenty of plains animals, such as giraffes, zebras, impalas and topi.
Akagera is one of the very few places in Africa where you stand a good chance of finding Shoebills and Sitatunga.
DAY 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park/Game Drive
Having arrived into Rwanda today morning or the day before, today marks the first day of your safari in Rwanda. After Breakfast you will transferred to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time for lunch and afternoon game drive by Gonja Safaris.
The 3 hours activity provides you with the opportunity to view animals like lions, elephant, buffalo, Giraffe, zebra and more than a dozen types of antelopes.
Overnight stay will be at Akagera Game Lodge, a colonial styled hotel with old world charm. Sleeping in it feels like taking a journey back to the 1950’s. During your time here, you will feel the vibrancy and energy of Mother Nature. See, all rooms have wonderful views of rolling mountains, open plains and Lake Ihema- the second largest lake in Rwanda.
DAY 2: – Boat Cruise and Relaxation
You will start this day with a morning game in search of animals you didn’t register the previous day. Once done, you will return to the lodge for a hot lunch which will be followed with a sightseeing boat ride on Lake Ihema. Here you will see a large number of hippos, huge Nile crocodiles and a variety of bird species such as the majestic African fish eagles and the large concentration of water birds. You will later embark on a night game drive.

DAY 3: – Game Drive and Transfer Back To Kigali
You will wake up at leisure, enjoy a bush breakfast in the park and later exit and drive back to Kigali to be dropped off at your hotel. It you have extra days to spend, we can extend this trip for you with a visit to the gorilla reserves of Rwanda and Uganda, or other destinations of your preference.
