6 Days Rwanda Primate Tracking Tour

DAY 1: Arrival – Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Nyungwe

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our Gonja Safaris driver guide will transfer you to Kigali were your holiday in Rwanda will begin with a city tour. Yo will visit the following sites; Nyamata Genocide  Church, Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Kimironko Market, Inema Arts Center, and Campaign Against Genocide Museum (CAG), where you will be able to immerse yourself in Rwandan history. You will then depart for Nyungwe National Park.

Overnight:  Nyungwe Top View Hotel (FB)

This lodge commands incredible views of Nyungwe forest area thanks to its location atop one of the hills overlooking it.

DAY 2: Chimpanzee Tracking – Afternoon Relaxation

Wake up to an early morning Chimpanzee trekking. Nyungwe National Park is the largest block of montane forest in East and Central Africa and has an incredibly rich biodiversity. After the briefing you will start the Chimpanzee trek and the rangers will do their utmost to help you locate them.

 Later you will visit the Gisakura tea estate or do the canopy walk in Nyungwe.

The climb starts gradually and takes you to the top of the top of the forest, 60 metres above the ground. Its midpoint will provides you with a view like no other. You will enjoy dreamy views over the southern region and look into the depths of the park. You will feel a refreshing breeze sweep over you, leaving your skin feeling more alive than ever.

DAY 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Kibuye and Gisenyi, Dian Fossey museum

After breakfast. You will transfer from Nyungwe to Volcanoes national park via Kibuye, which lies at the eastern tip of Lake Kivu and visit the Diana Fossey Museum and the Dian Fossey Tomb.

Overnight: Villa Gorilla Lodge (Lunch and Dinner)

This is a small bungalow type hotel situated on the foothills of Africa’s ultimate gorilla destination, Volcanoes National Park. It has priceless views of the three dormant mountains found in the park. The rooms are very clean and well decorated with authentic local handicrafts. Considering it’s found at a high altitude where temperatures are low, the hot water bottles they provide is a beautiful thought.

DAY 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast and head to the offices of the park where your gorilla trek will start after a briefing by the rangers.

On finding the gorilla family you have been allocated, you will interact with them as the guides interpret their behavior.

Members of the gorilla family you’ll visit are usually spread out across perhaps a thirty meter area in the jungle. You will move from place to place, meeting each member of the family and appreciating their uniqueness. A little infant might frolic in front of you to show off new climbing skills he has learnt. If in the mood, he might reach out to you and touch you. It’s such an emotional encounter that has left many in tears of joy.

DAY 5: Golden Monkey Trekking

Early morning wake up for Golden monkey trek. You will visit the golden monkey territory of Volcanoes National Park under ranger guidance. There are two habituated groups of Golden Monkey, one group comprises around 80 – 100 members and has its home at the foot of Mt Sabyinyo.

DAY 6: Drive to Kigali

Your Gonja Safaris guide will transfer you back to Kigali, and if time permits you will visit different souvenir shops before proceeding to the airport for your departure flight.
