Budongo is home to an estimated 800 chimps. This includes groups that have been habituated for research purposes for over five decades now.

Located in the southern sector of Murchison Falls N/P, Budongo prides on having one of the most extensive and ecologically diverse forests in East Africa, boasting, 465 plant species.

This includes giant mahoganies that rise to 60m tall. They are supported by buttressed bases that are often used as drums by roaming chimpanzees. Due to the lack of big hills to climb, Budongo offers the easiest trekking experience.

Its other draw is the excellent bird watching it offers, featuring a checklist of slightly above 360 birds, out of which two are found nowhere else in East Africa: Puvel’silladopsis and Yellow-footed flycatcher. Migratory birds are present from November to April.
