If you have been dreaming about having a qualitative time with elephants nearby, Tarangire is where that dream comes alive!

Here, you don’t need lucky to be able to see them, the great grey giants are in abundance, with a population of over 2,500. At any point in time, you are almost assured of watching a herd of the park’s ubiquitous elephants strolling down along slopes studded with ancient specimens of the bulbous baobab tree, also known as upside-down trees.

Tarangire National Park

The park is also a great ornithological destination, boasting over 550 bird species, our favorites are the red-and-yellow barbets. It is hard to get enough of how they do their serenading duets on the termite mounds where they nest.

While Tarangire’s Southern landscapes blossom with green swampland, the north is dominated by acacia woodlands.

Tarangire is also reputedly one of the best places in East Africa to seek out two dry-country antelope species: fringe-eared oryx and the rubber-necked gerenuk.

Whenever you feel you have had enough sightings, we shall carry on with the pursuit of the big cats, especially the lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Considering they are so good at camouflaging with their surroundings, it helps to pay close attention to how else they signal their presence, for instance with a telltale tail twitch.
